Most machines in CVA 50 will allready have a shortcut to the sound configuration panels (mixer) resident in the system tray located in the lower right hand corner of the screen. It is represented by a "speaker" icon shown below. If the speaker icon is shown you can double click it to advance to the mixer setup screen and proceed to the next section: Configuring the Mixer.
If the speaker icon is not present, follow the steps outlined below to place it there.
|
1) Go to Start Menu =>Settings =>Control Panels, then double click the
Multimedia icon when the Control Panel window appears. 2) After double clicking the Multimedia icon, a new window will appear
showing the current configuration of the soundcard used to play back sounds.
Make sure there are checks in the boxes beneath Preferred device ("Show
volume control on the taskbar") and the box "Use preferred devices only"
check boxes.
3) To show the changes press the "Apply" button. Then press "OK". The
window will dissapear and you will be returned to your desktop.
4) To use the mixer shortcut you just setup, double click the speaker icon and a mixer configuration panel will appear. |
1.) Double click the speaker icon located in the lower right hand
corner system tray. A new window will appear showing the current configurations
of your sound card. It will normally default to showing you the sound
output options.
The picture above shows you the most common configuration of the PCs in CVA 50. It is a good idea to check the mute boxes under each of the mixer controls you will not use. (for the most part you will only need the Volume Control, CD Audio, and Wave and Wave Synth sliders active on the sound output mixer) Depending on the driver of the sound card installed in the computer, your mixer control may have more or less sliders than shown above. The driver of the sound card controls which items will appear and how they appear on the mixer configuration. To check if you have all the possible sliders shown, pull down the "Options" menu in the Volume Control window.
A properties window pops up now allowing you to configure what will
be shown on the mixer for each of the 3 properties: Playback, Recording,
and Other. Make sure the radio button is set to Playback and scroll
through the window below to make sure there is a check by all of the available
components. Click the "OK" button to see any changes, if any, you
have made. To adjust the volume controls for recording, make sure
the radio button is selected near the Recording option. Scroll through
the box below and make sure all the components are checked.
Once again click the "OK" button and yet another mixer window
will appear.
|
IMPORTANT Once again bear in mind, that the driver for the soundcard installed in the machine dictates which items are available for display on the Playback properties, and the Recording properties. Some drivers either have "Select" OR "Mute" underneath the volume sliders in the recording control panel. If it says "Mute", put a check under every item except for the CD Audio, and Recording sliders. If it says "Select" as in the picture to the left, put a check mark ONLY UNDER the CD Audio slider. Just as a precaution, you can lower the volume of all the other sliders if you wish. |
Basically what you have done is disabled every recording device except for the CD Player. Also, playback is limited only to the CD player (for monitoring the sounds you wish to capture, and the bare essentials for playing back the saved *.wav files.
You are now ready to capture you CD clips. If you wish to record a sound with a microphone, follow the steps above to get back to the recording control mixer and either "Select" or un-"Mute" the Microphone slider box.
