Using the Kodak DC-20

The Kodak DC-20 is available for check-out in CVA Lab 138.  Take a quick look at the back of the camera.  You will notice 3 L.E.D. lights near the view window:  Power, Busy, and Memory.  Press the power button on the top of the camera to begin using it.  You will notice that a green light is lit next to "Power".  This is to let you know that the camera is ready to take pictures.  If at anytime you see a yellow light, it means that the camera is busy processing information and is not ready for use.  When it disappears and the only light showing is green, you are ready to proceed.  If you see a red light, this means the camera's memory is full.  You will not be able to take more pictures until you either clear the memory (pressing the memory button next to the power button), or you pull the images off the camera using the Kodak Photo Enhancer program.

Downloading Pictures from the DC-20

1.) Connect the cable to the side of the DC-20 and make sure the power is on.

2.) Go to Start Menu =>Programs =>Picture Works and click on the Photo Enhancer Special Fun Pack program icon.

3.) Under the File Menu select Twain Acquire. (if the program cannot find the DC-20 you may have to select the twain source and then go back to the acquire menu again.)

4.) Double check to see that the power is on. The DC-20 has an auto power off feature if it detects it is not in use. Often times, this is the problem when the program tells you that the DC-20 was not found or unavailable.

5.)PhotoEnhancer will now search for the DC-20 and when successful, it will open a new window.

6.) In the new window, select from the Acquire menu bar, Camera Pictures.  (don't forget about the power)

7.)A new window will pop up showing you a thumbnail view of all the pictures in the camera's memory.

8.) The final step is to save your work. You can click on any single picture, or <shift> click to select more than one picture. When you are done selecting, go to the camera menu and select Transfer Picture(s). PhotoEnhancer will automatically convert each picture into a *.tif format and open each up in a separate window. You can then edit the pictures in Photoshop if needed.

*NOTE*Continually check the power on the DC-20. This is the main reason why things don't work in PhotoEnhancer. And just because you have downloaded your pictures off the DC-20 does NOT mean that the memory is cleared. Follow the instructions below to clear the memory.

9.) Under the Camera menu select Camera Controls. This menu you can use to set basic defaults of the camera and clear the memory as well. You can also clear the memory with the button on top of the camera next to the power button.

Final Note. Depending on the size/complexity of the pictures, you will be able to take only a certain number of pictures before the memory is full. You will usually find that only 5 pictures can be taken before you need to clear the memory.
